Rachel Lawrence

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is most grateful to the family, friends and professional colleagues of Rachel Lawrence, who sadly passed away in September 2013 at the age of 45years, and whose memory has been honoured by fund-raising that has so far amounted to nearly £45,000. Rachel was born in 1968, studied for her degree in Law at the L.S.E, was called to the Bar by the Inner Temple in 1992, and prosecuted and defended as a well-regarded criminal lawyer for 21 years. As well as cystic fibrosis, Rachel suffered from type 1 diabetes and vitiligo, but made the profound decision to live life to the full and let nothing get her down. Her e-mail address was "socialbutterfly of london . com". She was an accomplished classical pianist, took female leads in plays at London University, the Tricycle theatre and Bar Theatrical Society, was a "chooser" in ITV's "Blind Date" with Cilla Black in 1999, and won Cystic Fibrosis Achiever of the Year Award in 1996. More than a thousand admirers attended her funeral and memorial services, and it is a testament to the regard in which she was held, that so much money has been raised in her name. We have received over £20,000 in donations and her parents organised a fund-raising dinner last summer at the Thames Rowing Club in Putney - to be repeated again this year - which raised over £22,000. Rachel was an inspiration to all who knew her during her short but successful and happy life. She will remain so for all with CF, for the money her memory has inspired will help to ensure that the present generation of CF sufferers will live longer and healthier lives.
